After building our first home in 2009 we decided to go back and build our second property in 2016, after looking at various builders throughout the normal elimination process we decided that we would choose a local building company JMBS, negotiations from the start appeared to be clear and precise as to what could be offered. JMBS designed an elegant home for our block which was an unusual shape with two street frontages, the end result was a magnificent home with some nice details throughout, all trades where easy to talk to and work with during the build which reduces stress at these very important times. John McDonald came to us via a recommendation from Ray White Real Estate. After scouring project builders within the greater Sydney area, without success, we decided to give a local builder a go and we were not disappointed. Ultimately we signed a fixed price contract.
On first meeting with John McDonald (Principal) and his daughter Chelsea (Interior Designer), both Lynn and I felt immediately at ease, in particular the wide choice of house and land packages in our desired location.
The journey through the process with John & Chelsea, from initial quotation to the final handover of our new home was well managed.
A fixed price contract and tender documents were agreed and signed and, in particular, we were impressed with the quality of inclusions
Combined with a relaxed approach to the project, all trades we encountered during the build were both courteous and eager to help. In particular, the return of phone messages was outstanding from both trades and head office.

The building of our dream home was inspired by a concept home designed by John McDonald Building Services. We were after something unique and the large building companies all seemed to be offering the same product and charging an arm and a leg to make modifications. John and his team helped us to design a beautiful home which suited our character and met all of our needs and more. We were able to include design features specific to our tastes and modify the plans to ensure that the house design was perfect for our family needs. With beautiful inclusions and finishing touches, John and his team were able to build for us an amazing home. We have strangers pulling up to the front of our house to complement us on the house and ask who built it.
The build went very smoothly and in hindsight went rather quickly. Any issues along the way were addressed immediately and solutions provided. Ben as Site Manager was very approachable and listened to ideas and concerns. He took a lot of pride in his work and added a personal touch to creating the finished product.
I really enjoyed building with a local builder who values his product and values the relationships formed with his clients. It was nice being involved with such a dedicated family business, with Chelsea guiding our selections and providing advice, Ben as site manager and of course John, who helped us from the concept stage to completion. Having built 3 homes in the past, we decided our fourth would be something very different.
After a very extensive and expensive search we thought we had found a succesful builder however their designs and budget were worlds apart, thats when we approached John McDonald Building Services. Our experiences from then on were totally different.
The first meeting with John, his designer and pool builder were very encouraging. They all contributed to a very acceptable design and best of all, the costing was within our budget.
